We are professional postpartum doulas serving the Portland area. Our independence from certification allows for greater autonomy in our practice and an ability to expand our offerings to include holistic healing arts. All of our doulas have CPR and First Aid certification.

Ada Lunoak

Ada Lunoak, doulaSupporting and empowering families has been my passion for the last 13 years. Once a camp counselor and hospital volunteer for children with cancer and their families, I found myself called to the path of holistic women’s healthcare in 2004. I initially thought my goal was to become a midwife, but I was continually pulled towards working with postpartum mothers.

I feel honored to be a doula, holding space for women as they move through the amazing life transitions that motherhood can bring. What a joy it is to share those magical days after a new person has entered our world! I am passionate about helping all kinds of mothers feel nourished and supported, including mothers who have experienced abuse, birth loss, or postpartum anxiety/depression.

My background includes a BA in Women’s History; working in women’s health clinics and a birth center; birth and postpartum doula training with midwives Elizabeth Davis, CPM and Nancy Myreck, CNM; herbal medicine coursework at the California School of Herbal Studies; childbirth educator training at Birthingway College of Midwifery; and breastfeeding peer counselor training with the Nursing Mother’s Counsel.

I was born in Portland, OR, and after many travels, I returned to my birthtown in 2007. I love spending time at the coast and under big trees, yoga, gardening and cooking. I live in NE Portland with my amazing two-year-old, beloved husband, and six beautiful chickens.

AmandaMy passion for supporting mothers began following the birth of my son Lev. I found myself continually drawn to new mothers and pregnant mothers, intuitively sensing their own unique needs and being a support to help them find their own path to motherhood. While pregnant, I became fascinated by women's health, particularly during pregnancy and postpartum. It was through my exploration that I found placenta medicine and went on to encapsulate my own placenta myself. The benefits that I received were life-changing and I knew that I had to bring this information and awareness to other women. Often times after the baby has been born, the mother's needs are not given the attention they deserve and her own self-care routines are completely interrupted. Having your placenta pills at hand can provide you with added support to help you transition into motherhood.

Providing placenta encapsulation services goes hand in hand with my doula work, as I strive to help mothers nourish themselves during their postpartum period. It is my goal to help mothers give themselves the permission to rest, be taken care of and focus their energies on themselves and their new baby. Early postpartum life is a unique period that I am honored to help women experience wholly and unfettered by the responsibilities of housework, cooking, cleaning, running errands or any other tasks that may need attended to. I am able to assist you and your family in a variety of ways: breastfeeding/bottle support, co-sleeping, overnight care, sling/baby carrier help, domestic chores, helping with other children or entertaining in-laws. I am a skilled cook, have my Oregon's Food Handler's License and am very familiar with working with food sensitivities/allergies and vegan/vegetarian cuisine.

I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband Jared and toddler Lev. I am also a co- editor and illustrator for HipMama: The Parenting Zine and co-founder of LionHeart Kombucha. I love our beautiful Oregon landscape, gardening, musical performance, swimming in cold rivers and being active in my community. I am honored to be part of my clients' postpartum experience and I hope that I can be a part of yours.

ami oyarzabal

Ami Oyarzabal, doulaI am committed to every family’s journey being a fulfilling, joyous, and complete experience. I support your choices as well as respect your privacy and your needs as parents.

Your experience is of the utmost importance to me. The space and freedom to spend these precious moments with your family, to savor this magical, maybe mysterious, but no less special time is what I want to offer to you. I promise to hold and create the space of peace, love and tranquility in your home with you and your new, growing family.

My extensive background in healing through massage therapy (currently licensed in WA state), childbirth education and my personal experience of raising two high energy, creative, busy boys gives me the ability to intuit and support the unique needs that come with motherhood and family life. Through listening and offering, I will provide relief from the burden of household chores, including but not limited to laundry, cleaning, cooking, and running errands, as well as advice on baby wearing, breast/bottle feeding, co-sleeping, diapering, sibling relationships and referrals if needed.

Both of my children were birthed at home in the water and we breastfed into toddler- hood. My family, 11 year-old Toby, 5 year-old Sean and my husband and I live in Portland. We love to play, garden, hike, sing, dance and learn together. I have lived in an ashram in South India studying ancient Vedic tradition. I can bring spiritual knowledge and meditation techniques for mothering and parenting to your family if you so desire.

As both a mother and postpartum doula, I know how challenging these first weeks with a new baby can be. Invite me into your home and let me assist you.

Juliette Authierjuliette

A mother of two children, I was deeply inspired after the birth of my daughter to learn about traditional birth and parenting practices that allowed me to instinctively care for my child and myself. I was also struck by the unexpected intensity of emotions and physical exhaustion that came along with adjusting to my role as Mother in a culture that can be demanding and isolating. I began caring for other babies and toddlers along with my own, working in households as a nanny for several years. Recognizing the unique strengths, concerns and needs of families after the birth of a new baby, I set out to provide more specific support as a postpartum doula.

In 2005 I completed a DONA postpartum doula training with Susan Martensen and the breastfeeding peer counselor training with Nursing Mothers Counsel. In 2008 I completed a birth doula training through DONA with Jesse Henderson and realized that my heart is focused on the process after birth. With a passion for assisting vulnerable women, I have worked in social service settings with pregnant and parenting women in treatment for drug and alcohol addictions and also as a postpartum doula for teens with Birthing Ways doula connection in MN where I provided home visits, newborn care instruction, babywearing demonstration and breastfeeding assistance. I am looking forward to working with Ayla Birth community doulas of Portland in the future. I studied herbal medicine for a year at the NY Open Center in 2000 and have since educated myself on the nourishing and strengthening qualities of herbs and nutrition to assist in postpartum recovery and heath.

I am grateful to live near my extended family of several generations in Portland, a city rich with community and resources for families. I hope to provide the intuitive care, practical household help and referrals to services that will bring joy to your babymoon and allow the whole family to enjoy this time.
