Providing placenta encapsulation services goes hand in hand with my doula work, as I strive to help mothers nourish themselves during their postpartum period. It is my goal to help mothers give themselves the permission to rest, be taken care of and focus their energies on themselves and their new baby. Early postpartum life is a unique period that I am honored to help women experience wholly and unfettered by the responsibilities of housework, cooking, cleaning, running errands or any other tasks that may need attended to. I am able to assist you and your family in a variety of ways: breastfeeding/bottle support, co-sleeping, overnight care, sling/baby carrier help, domestic chores, helping with other children or entertaining in-laws. I am a skilled cook, have my Oregon's Food Handler's License and am very familiar with working with food sensitivities/allergies and vegan/vegetarian cuisine. I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband Jared and toddler Lev. I am also a co- editor and illustrator for HipMama: The Parenting Zine and co-founder of LionHeart Kombucha. I love our beautiful Oregon landscape, gardening, musical performance, swimming in cold rivers and being active in my community. I am honored to be part of my clients' postpartum experience and I hope that I can be a part of yours. Contact Amanda Englund at:
For more information, A mother of two children, I was deeply inspired after the birth of my daughter to learn about traditional birth and parenting practices that allowed me to instinctively care for my child and myself. I was also struck by the unexpected intensity of emotions and physical exhaustion that came along with adjusting to my role as Mother in a culture that can be demanding and isolating. I began caring for other babies and toddlers along with my own, working in households as a nanny for several years. Recognizing the unique strengths, concerns and needs of families after the birth of a new baby, I set out to provide more specific support as a postpartum doula. In 2005 I completed a DONA postpartum doula training with Susan Martensen and the breastfeeding peer counselor training with Nursing Mothers Counsel. In 2008 I completed a birth doula training through DONA with Jesse Henderson and realized that my heart is focused on the process after birth. With a passion for assisting vulnerable women, I have worked in social service settings with pregnant and parenting women in treatment for drug and alcohol addictions and also as a postpartum doula for teens with Birthing Ways doula connection in MN where I provided home visits, newborn care instruction, babywearing demonstration and breastfeeding assistance. I am looking forward to working with Ayla Birth community doulas of Portland in the future. I studied herbal medicine for a year at the NY Open Center in 2000 and have since educated myself on the nourishing and strengthening qualities of herbs and nutrition to assist in postpartum recovery and heath. I am grateful to live near my extended family of several generations in Portland, a city rich with community and resources for families. I hope to provide the intuitive care, practical household help and referrals to services that will bring joy to your babymoon and allow the whole family to enjoy this time. For more information,
